About

I have recently ended my contract as a Scientific Officer at the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies of the Joint Research Centre. In this position I  contributed to the Institute research activity on a number of topics:
- In the field of electronic identity, I was part of the team looking at citizens attitudes and behaviours regarding personal identity data disclosure.
- In the area of mobile content evolution I worked on future trends in the mobile search market.
- I also contributed  to the research in the field of Education and Training by supporting the Learning 2.0 project.

I hold a PhD in Telematics and Information Society from the Department of Electronic Engineering of the University of Florence in Italy.
During my PhD I have gained a broad experience in Interaction Design ranging from the design and evaluation of robotic artifacts in the context of dementia care to the design of innovative concepts for future Air Traffic Management scenarios.
I have also aquired expertise in the assessment of decision support tools for Air Traffic Controllers, and evaluation of spatial displays for civil aviation pilots.

I have a BSc+MSc (laurea) in Communication Science.
After the graduation I worked for two years in the new media unit of the 4th largest Italian advertising agency from 2000 to 2002. Disappointed by the lack of user-centredness that characterized the advertising approach to web design, I started collaborating as a research assistant with the Interaction Design Unit of the Communication Science Department at the University of Siena (Italy). In the meanwhile I was awarded with a PhD study grant.
I have been working international research projects since 2002.

My research area is human interaction with information and communication technologies, in a rather broad sense. From the analysis of human activity to inform the design of technological applications, to the evaluation of concepts and prototypes to develop innovative design solutions in different fields, up to the analysis of the impact that the take up of ICTs can have on society to inform policy making, my research activities focused on both devices and services that can make users’ and citizens’ life easier.
